If you are not the Swatch type and have secretly wanted to out-Swatch your friends you might want to consider the Alessi Ciclo watch. Minimal but loud, we feel that it has that potent mix of cool and pop-funky. The white lines indicate hours at those positions.

Hey, here is something I can really use! A cute clock to track where everyone (okay, a few of the) people that I care about. The concept is as simple as it is cool; the “you” and “me” hands are for, er, you and your significant other (whatever or whoever that is) and the other blank hands can be written on track more people and places. There are two other version of the clock but this one is our favorite.

These days, you need a special reason to carry an alarm clock on your voyages. Everything from your wrist watch to cell phones to hotel TVs now have built in alarm clocks. So we need to be tempted to carry one, and this dot matrix electroluminescent backlit wonder of a clock does the trick. Designed by Theo Williams, the clock displays temperature and date along with time.

How about waking up to a Starck? This FM alarm clock radio with digital display can certainly wake you up in style. While not the only cool such gadget around, I love the oversized speaker and the mind that thinks about making the speaker the main focal point. The only issue I see is that of practicality. I would like to be able to see the time but since I would most certainly keep the speaker facing out, it would require picking up and rotating the piece to check out the time. If you, however, are the type who sets an alarm and is ready to go when it rings, you will be just fine.

We have a thing with clocks & watches; actually timepieces in general. We even have a separate category for them. This very special George Nelson night clock harkens back to the 1950s and while not cheap, will make an amazing present for someone really into that period. The 50s were a special time and the sense of that time seems to have been captured very well here. This is a re-issue of the original desk clock by the Vitra Design Museum with quartz innards that should keep it ticking for a long time (if not abused).

Watches are such curious things now. I mean, you don’t really need one to know the time (not unless you live on the top of a mountain in Congo) what with all the cell phones and computers around. But as accessories go, especially for men, these things still matter. This Nooka watch has dots that represent hours, bar for showing the minutes and digital window that toggles between seconds and the date. Not only that, it is waterproof, backlit and comes with a timer and alarm. Just the thing to take on the next safari!

What we mean by finally is that finally someone has done something other than just change the package of the clock to make it unusual. If you like all things type (seems like the whole world does these days), well this is one sweet clock for you. Gotta love it. It is a tad expensive but hey, with its random use of the 12 built-in fonts, it will keep you checking time for ever!
PRICE: £550 (small, without the date, is £195)
