holey christmas tree by Vladimir Ivanov

These unusual christmas trees are made by Vladimir Ivanov. We love the design and the fact that it can be folded and put away to be enjoyed year after year. By the way, we found ‘em in a store in Australia (we did say that stuff around the Internet).

According to the web site, “The holey Christmas tree was born out of desperation to find a suitable Christmas tree for his own son. After scouring the stores for a suitable tree for his architectural environment Vladimir was disillusioned with his options, an the concept of the holey Christmas tree was born. Small holes above the large cutout circle shapes allow the user to embellish the tree with ornaments of their own selection, from a contrast of rich and lustrous colours of the season to tonal snowflakes this tree is sensational. The tree is router cut to avoid the burning of laser cutting and allow the grain of the timber to show though each hole. “

Le Corbusier’s Modulor tape

This tape is issued by the Vitra Design Museum and is based on the Le Modulor system by Le Corbusier. According to the web site, “Regarded as the most important modern attempt to develop a mathematically coherent measurement, the Modulor is a system based on the proportions of the human body. Le Corbusier s corresponding book on the subject, Le Modulor, is still valued as an essential work in the field of modern architectural history. During the architect s lifetime only a few samples of this measuring tape were created - for his personal use in the design of building projects. An original artefact in the holdings of the Fondation Le Corbusier served as the model for this new edition by the Vitra Design Museum.”
